(Crying) No, bawling would be more accurate. However, I'm probably being a bit unfair.

I'm allowing my prejudice against Burago affect my judgment of a model I haven't seen yet. Hopefully, Burago will produce a model that features the appropriate quality the Chiron deserves. I'm hoping for at LEAST the equivalent of what AutoArt would produce.

Agree with you, Marlowe. No less quality than Auto Art for sure. If the quality isn't there, it won't be added to my collection.

But you have to respect the idea that manufacturers at the low price/detail part of the market play a vital and valid part in the hobby and really shouldn't be ridiculed or demeaned. People with low incomes or a real budget limitation enjoy diecast and resin cars, too, and this could be their only way of participating in the hobby.

Also, young people and kids can be eager collectors (and are important to continue the overall hobby and the on-going love of cars and models) and such a market segment has rather severe cost limitations.

Naturally, it would just as wrong for someone with a lower budget limitation to express disgust and anger at the higher detail/higher price point models. Those type models are equally as valid and are key components of a healthy hobby.

It's one thing to be disappointed a model doesn't initially get released at one's ideal comfort point in terms of cost and features, but sometimes it seems there is absolute fury expressed that a model would even be produced that one feels isn't their personally desired ideal.

I think there is a reasonable chance that such a model with the "cool" factor as this one will get done at more than one price point ....... and if a replica is a good basic visually representation of the real car, one can always add the upscale model version when that comes out.

Mike, I understand your point but there was no intention (at least on my part) to belittle or demean Bburago. Bottom line is, as Marlowe pointed out, this car deserves to be well done. No argument that if Bburago does do it and markets to the low end, that's great. But, I tend to prefer a high(er) quality model - especially when it is a halo car.

The judge is out. If the Bburago version is well done, I'll buy it. If not, then I'll wait for another manufacturer to produce it. If that doesn't happen, then I'll skip adding a Chiron to my collection. Absolutely no skin off of my nose.

I wish Bburago bunches of luck.

Great insight and comments Mike!! Thnx. I started my collecting with Bburago & Ertl.

Most of my collection is Autoart now. I'm not willing to spend the $ amounts for CMC or BBR.

I've seen a comparison on another forum of the Bburago Chiron versus a high end one. I couldn't really tell from the picture who the maker of the high end model was, probably AutoArt or one of the others. Were there differences, yes there were, like night and day. I would hope that Bburago would at least do the Bugatti in their "Signature" series and not their regular line. I'm not hyping the virtues of the "Signature" series but they are a step above what you would normally expect from Bburago. I have AutoArt and Bburago and Maisto models in my collection. Since most of my focus is on the 1/18 scale and this scale is traditionally the most expensive one, I have decided that for me the best way to build my collection is to cut back on the quantity of models bought and focus on quality. Not all collectors can afford to spend over $100.00 (and the price climbs from there) for a model, even at $100.00 some will question whether the model is any good. If I had to guess the price of the high end version the Bburago was compared to I'd guess somewhere north of $350.00.

No problem, Rick. I was just mentioning in general how sometimes when a model is announced, there are occasionally people who might say : "Oh no ! Why is this one being done as a cheap cr*ppy piece of junk by (insert modelmaker here)?" or "D*mn ! No model should be sold for $ 299 ! What overpriced nonsense no matter how many silly extra details are added."

Naturally, in a perfect world, only my favorite model subjects would be released (and several times a year) at exactly the detail and price level I want and meet my budget (which is currently $ 5.37). And my display space would be unlimited, dust-free and climate-controlled !

(PIC) AUTOart's Chiron

The only Chiron that AUTOart has produces to date is this one:
photo no longer available

The Bugatti 18/3 Chiron is a 1999 concept car by Bugatti, designed by Fabrizio Giugiaro of Italdesign. Powered by a 6.3 litre W18 engine, it is a 2-seater mid-engined sports car. Bugatti named the Chiron in honour of Bugatti racing driver Louis Chiron. The 18/3 Chiron was the last in a trio of Bugatti concept cars by Italdesign, it was followed by the Veyron.
The Chiron name will be used again on the 2016 successor to the Veyron.
I have seen no word as yet that AUTOart will produce the 2016 Chiron, but following the huge demand and acclaim for their various Veyron models, I suspect they will.

Update to my post 27108.4.1.1 above. The Bburago is being compared against what I'll assume is a pre-production model of the Chiron by Amalgam. I'm sure there are many who don't think twice about spending the money for an Amalgam model, but I'm one of the ones who do, so I'll wait to see who else may be making the Chiron.
