This 1999 BMW V12 LMR was a collaborative effort of BMW Motorsports and Williams F1. Unhappy with the performance of the prior V12 LM, The body was completely redesigned for aerodynamics, top mounted air scoop (for cooler air) and a mini roll bar that basically surrounded the driver's head to increase air flow over the spoiler. debuted at Sebring, two cars were entered. Chassis #001 was totaled in an accident but #002 won overall. Three V12LMRs entered Le Mans and this #15 car took the overall win. The 580 hp 5.9L V12 propelled the car to 214 mph on the Mulsanne Straight. For 2000, so not to go to waste, the V12LMRs were entered into the American Le Mans series circuit, where the new Audi R8 Le Mans prototype proved too much and the BMWs settled for 3rd and 4th.
Sealed model by Kyosho.
Thanks, Rich. Maisto's old GT-Line of racers was very good for $30 or so...wish they'd kept that going.
That Maisto 1999 BMW Le Mans winner is one of the few Maisto that I have kept in my collection. It was an outstanding model for the price.
Both Kyosho (2) and Maisto did fine jobs with their BMW models at their respective price/detail points. Very nice !
Maisto models were / are a Heaven- Sent gift from the Die-Cast Model Gods !
