After the GT40 Mkll, Ford severed ties with the English partners selling Ford Advanced Vehicles to John Wyers. Ford now used their Kar Kraft subsidiary along with metal experts, Brunswick Aircraft Corp to develop a streamlined body for their J-Car platform using the same 427 V8, transmission and brakes of the Mkll. It was fitted with a tubular roll cage to supplement the honey comb chassis which shattered in a crash killing Ken Miles. Gurney was worried that the resultant car was 600 lbs heavier than the Ferrari 330P4 and how the brakes would hold up. He developed a new style heading into turns by lifting the throttle well before he had to brake. The aerodynamics of the MklV gave the car a speed of 213 mph in the 3.6 mi Mulsanne Straight. 4 MklVs were raced, 2 by Shelby American and 2 by Holman & Moody in the 1967 Sebring and Le Mans 24 hour races, winning both. A total of 6 MklVs were built.
I bought one of the Exoto MklVs in Standox Chromillusion Kyalami Flash just because it really shows off the sexy contours.
What a coincidence, the company I work for has a will call for All American Racers here in Santa Ana. I'm trying to beg my supervisor to let me deliver their order instead. I've been there years ago with my youngest brother because he's a real big racing fan. I do know before he moved to New York that we went up to Aero Books in Burbank where Dan was there to debut and sign his new book.
Great writeup and pictures Rich. I assume that is a space saver spare in the rear?
@bob-jackman Mini spare to port; 'luggage bin" to starboard of the central exhaust.
How close is that prototype to the J-Car?
... I like it in yellow, and what's NOT to love about ALL that finger fun! 😎 😎
@rich-sufficool This from my understanding was the car used for I believe it was the Le Mans development work. So this is pretty much the final version of the car with the exception of the fine tuning it for Le Mans.
The description could be someone's girl friend...she sounds like fun!

I don't know about the internals but the bodywork is significantly different. How close is that prototype to the J-Car?
@marty-johnson I gotta ask (and I hate to admit this, but... ) Are those scale models or real cars? They (building, cars, the real gravel road ) all look like outdoor staged replicas, but I'm NOT positive. Do you know? 🤔 😲 😯 🙄
@marty-johnson I like that "Bread Wagon" Kamm Back J-Car. Who makes the model?
