There are only a few 1/18 releases I'm waiting for, and this is (was ) one of them.  It perfectly fills in one of the only two voids I have in my 1/18 Mustang collection (I'm now waiting for a 2024 ).

Overall, it's a nice, decent, some-what heavy model.... but all the cost-cutting is obvious.  Unlike previous GL Mustangs, this 1981 Cobra does not have a suspension, any interior or trunk carpet flocking, nor a hood post (although the hood stays up just fine ).

The one-piece T-Top fits just OK, while the dash and all front lights are, well... weak.   Everything else is actually quite nice.  For about $75, I suppose this common fare in 2024.

It looks great and you like it ..... that's what counts. The "perfect" diecast will never be made, so the hobby, of course, allows for a wide and enjoyable range like this beauty.

Great addition, @chris!  One of these early Foxes is on my list as well.  I'm hoping for a dark red '82 GT.

The execution seems about on par with my most recent GL, the '81 Camaro Z28.  Not perfect, but also not bad.  It definitely fills a hole in the Mustang lineup, so I'll be adding one.

HA! I just realized the 5.0 V8 is actually incorrect for 1981.  This should be a 4.2 V8 ... a watered-down 302 w/a poultry 119hp. Wow....terrible!

oops...that's an error that should have been caught.  Really hope there are '82s coming then.  That was the first year for the 5.0L.

Yes, you're exactly right.... AND... the goofy part is that Greenlight's  OWN box for this 1981 Cobra does not list a 5.0 V8.   I guess I need to modify this 5.0 (with a little paint and removal of one air-cleaner hose ) or just live with it.  🙄 🙄    I suspect that if this was a $229.99 Autoart  1981 Cobra we wouldn't be having this discussion.

WTF!

AutoArt is in no way immune to screw ups though.  I have a ton of AA models & while most are very good with little to no issues, sometimes they have their own headscratching moments.

Check out the spelling here:

That's hilariously-sad!  If you know what I mean?   I guess this particular Benz belonged to "Merced."    Afterall, your model says, "Merced's Benz."

I'm guessing this was noticed but no one wanted to spend any capital to re-design & re-tool.  There were simply too many "sets of eyes"  handling this part to believe this mistake was not noticed before making the final decision to go to production.

agreed.

They did end up fixing it on later runs, so I got one of the "rare" first run.  I remember the forums being up in arms over the mistake...don't know if that's what caused AA to make the fix.

Well, I didn't know that (and I'm glad to hear it ) but I'd certainly like to think "forum protest"  made the difference....  The squeaky wheel gets the grease, and sometimes that may be perceived as "causing trouble"  but there's nothing wrong with "good trouble."    🙂 🙂
