This is a Welly diecast model of the sleek and good-looking Mercury Cougar Eliminator from 1970. They have done a '70 XR-7 and Ertl has done excellent 1969 versions of this Mercury car.

Nice Mike.👍 I’d have to say that the ‘70 is the last year that I liked Cougars. After that they pretty much became “bleh” to me.

Thanks ! Those background snaps were all taken around Moab, Utah when I visited family members out there some years ago.

@100ford2003 Steve;

I owned a green '72 like pics 1 to 3 and loved it.  The '73 (pic 4/5) was even more attractive.  The '74 (6/7) and  the nearly same two following years (8 and 9) were less appealing to me due to size increase to a different class of car really, but were still nice looking.  In '77 the new styling (pic 10) seemed generic by comparison and it was downhill after that for me.  With all this said however, I must say that the yellow '68 Cougar I owned was my favorite of the bunch.

@jack-dodds

‘67-68 really were the best IMHO A Dan Gurney XR7 just can’t be beat.

Nice photos Mike.  Utah reminds me of Arizona. I have some Welly, Sunstar and Ertl Cougars.

Thanks ! Yep, there is similar dramatic and colorful scenery in both those locations. I also really like my Welly and SunStar diecasts of the Cougars and would also be delighted with an Ertl 1969 version, I am sure.

IMHO this one is the best Cougar EVER!

'68 Mercury Cougar GT-E 427. Less than 400 of these rare beasts were ever built.
