Here's 3 Fox Body Mustangs of which I have a boatload from getting review samples from GMP. The first is a pretty 1985 GT Twister ll that was commissioned by the Kansas City District. For this, Ford promised to deliver at least 200 HP from their 5.0 V8. After some tweaking magic, it hit 210 HP. The original request was to outfit them with Super Cobra Jet 428s or 351 HOs, but the vast majority had this 5.0. Outside of a choice of transmissions, the package was just graphics and a special interior.
Here's a Police Pursuit Mustang converted to a drag car from the Pork Chop series:
One more: an NO2 boosted street racer:
I owned one Fox body 5L Mustang and drove several during surveillance duties.. Considering I am a major Mustang freak I have to say I wasn't too excited about driving it/them. I have had Mustangs and Cougars from the 60s and 70s but this Fox body didn't give me the same pleasurable driving feeling at all. For me Mustang attraction was mostly focused on the 64 1/2 thru '73 era.
GMP Florida Highway Patrol 5.0 LX, GMP got a few things wrong but overall it is a nice representation of the FHP Mustang patrol car. I drove several of the Mustang patrol cars over the years Starting with a 1988 model as my assigned unit. I drove other model years as well. In the first photo is my retirement weapon that is a 4 inch nickel plated FHP issued Colt Python .357 Magnum. Under the grips on the frame is a stamped HSMV (Highway Safety Motor Vehicles) number. The Python originally had a pachmayr rubber grip. I purchased the wood grip for it.
When you retired from FHP you get to keep your duty weapon, when FHP moved over to the semi automatic 9mm the last of us who were transitioned were given the option of the department holding the revolver mine being a Python until retirement so I chose to have them hold the Python. When I retired I sent the python to Colt and had them go through it so that it was in top shape. I have not fired a round through it since I received it at retirement. The handcuffs in the case were one of my duty sets that I purchased out of my own pocket with the hinge instead of a chain. That is my old sergeants badge in that case and the badge in the case with the car is my Lieutenants badge. That is an actual FHP uniform patch off of one of my old uniforms as well along with other uniform items. The two keys are a traffic box key to control intersection traffic lights when needed, and a handcuff key. The small FHP circle item is an FHP tie tac for the class A long sleeve uniform. The belt buckle was purchased at the FHP academy.
As a side note the FHP Mustang are very hard to find and when you do they are ultra expensive, I found this one and got it at a better price because the search light had been knocked off but it was in the box and the antennas were all missing. I replaced the antennas and reattached the search light. I tried for years to find one of these but normally people were wanting $1600 and up for them.
