There's a few of these guys - with outstanding tutorials - on YouTube who demonstrate just how they take box-stock $20- $30 1/24 plastic models kits and turn them into some of the best, more accurate, detailed scale works of art you'll ever see. Their color finishes, of course, will leave you speechless.
