Shelby American had already used their allotment for the 1965 Le Mans 24 hours so the called upon Georges Filipinetti, the owner of the renowned Swiss racing team to purchase CX2602 to also race a Daytona at Le Mans. The #59 car was repainted in the Swiss racing colors. CX2602 had already seen action that year at Daytona, Sebring, Monza and the Nurburgring that year. The drivers were Peter Sutcliffe and Peter Harper, normally Ferrari drivers, but after the 10th hour, a blown engine ended their day. The car was returned to Alan Mann Racing and was repainted back to Shelby American team colors and never raced again. Model by Exoto.
Fun fact: This car was one of the few Daytonas that were built at Carrozzeria in Modena, Italy.
Great looking model, really like it in the Swiss racing colors!
@gavin Way back when these Daytonas appeared at a show (for $99 each), I emptied my wallet buying the standard Guardsman Blue and the red looked so cool, I bought that one too.
I've got the Shelby Collectibles version of this one, not as detailed as the Exoto, but looks good to me.
Another fine model with an interesting history Rich. These Exit models are outstanding. Wish I had more.
