In 1963, a group of Chrysler engineers commandeered one the 55 1964 Dodge 330 A864 light weight sedan drag cars with a tweaked 426 Hemi, a 727 Torqueflite push button automatic trans and a 4.56 Sure-Grip rear. The aluminum hood and front fenders along with plexiglass side windows, and stripped interior with bolted in seats from an A100 van., it brought the curb weight to 3200 lbs. Before the model year had arrived it had already won the 1963 Stock Eliminator. Now that little old lady from Pasadena seemed to have scored one of 19 PP1 red on red A864's with the optional A833 4 speed manual and shod with the same 15" American Racing wheels with the rears stored in the trunk for extra traction. Considering 14 of the 19 PP1s were shipped to Mr. Norm, she could have ordered it from Grand Spaulding Dodge in Chicago. Somewhere along the line, she had the headers connected to a street legal dual exhaust system. The "Terror of Colorado Boulevard" must have been well connected. There is only one survivor of the 19 PP1 red/red A864s in existence and it's one of Mr Norm's lot and it has the 727 Torqueflite. It had been stored since 1966 with 567 miles on it. Restored to factory specs, it recently sold for $150,000. Whether it was bought by another little old lady is not known.
There's nobody meaner..........
Plain & simple, just damn good models! I'm unaware of any 1/18 collector who doesn't own at least ONE version of these HW61 beautifully replicated Dodges, and of course, most own several.
I've always wanted to, but haven't yet, fabricate a few four-doors. Theoretically, an EZ task considering re-working of the C-pillar is NOT necessary.
@chris I absolutely adored the one year '64 Dodge and Plymouth Furys designs. In '65, all the Chrysler full size marques went long and low ( so much the the Chrysler 300L could no longer use the 2 4bbl with ram induction manifold). The '64 design had one more year with the mid sized Coronets and Belvederes which I also loved (I had a '65 Satellite cv) which had the same lovely proportions.
Very nice ! It's a great automobile and also Highway 61 model in all it's forms. The pictures clearly show how well-done and detailed this Dodge is. I have 2 of the regular '64 Dodge sedans and a '65 Plymouth Belvedere and they are favorite 1/18ths.
@rich-sufficool Well, I too LOVE 1964 & '65 Dodge/Plymouth styling (...I love most Mopar styling from 1955-1973 anyway! ) I've always wanted a 1965 Satellite convertible...I can't believe you drove one, with the top down no less, into battle! 😏 😏
