The 1933 Chicago World's Fair displayed the best luxury cars of that year. There were the V16 Cadillac Aerodynamic Coupe, V12 Packard, a one-off Duesenberg Torpedo (AKA: the "Twenty Grand"). Pierce Motor Cars presented this body #1 of 5 V12 Silver Arrow with its Art Moderne styling to reveal the future of luxury and performance. Ironically, the Silver Arrow wasn't silver when it debuted; it was tutone beige. From its canted grill and fender mounted headlamps (actually patented by Pierce in 1914), its hidden spares behind the front wheels to it sweeping fastback with gun slit rear windows, it created quite a stir. The interior boasted fine cabinetry, lush ribbed upholster. The oddball eye-shaped instrument cluster seems so out of place with the rest of the scheme. All 5 Silver Arrows were sold and 3 still exist. Like many show cars, the marque would continue to spark interest in new models. The 1934 Silver Arrow (the coupe shown below) has some of the styling cues with better rear visibility. This #1 Silver Arrow was sold by the Balckhawk Museum in 2017 for $2.3 million at auction. Every restoration has kept the silver pewter body color. This Signature model is just beautifully rendered for a mid-priced replica and so much better than that godawful expensive Danbury Mint 1/24.
This looks sensational and really an Art Deco masterpiece ! Signature did a fine job with this 1/18 and it is great model car to display. I happily have their cool black/silver accents version.
This is a fantastic model for Signature. Great post Rich.
Have it, love it.
When in or near Buffalo, NY I recommend a visit to the PA Museum !!!!
