It's been long since I sold my 1:24 collection and became enamoured with 1:18 scale, but not enough to start a collection of them.  I've always loved Highway 61 models and never really checked out the rest of the field.

Now, with George's recent post about Acme's '57 Olds that IS PRODUCED EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE DANBURY MINT, my die cast string is being pulled in different directions.  The olds and other models offered by Danbury (at a greatly increased price over other Acme models) look especially nice.

Are they any different than Acme's other models?

Is Danbury re-entering the die cast market?

Have heard rumblings of this though it’s hard to fathom, afraid they’d be awfully expensive it true.

DM isn't making any diecasts anymore. They merely commission a repaint from a company like Acme from existing tooling. There's usually no other difference other than paint.
