Congratulations, Brian. That is a beautifully built model. The 1965 model is much harder to find than the 1966 which has been reissued several times. It looks perfect with the wheel covers Paul created.

I had a brief infatuation with a much less worthy Buick when I was younger also. After our 1980 Skylark had to be replaced before requiring a third transmission rebuild within the model year, my family got a new 1981 Century sedan. It was maroon with all of the extra chrome trim from a Limited model but was not a Limited. It also had the chrome wheels. So when new it looked pretty spiffy. I would wash it and keep it in nice shape, even scrubbing the silver exhaust pipe that exited behind the right rear tire so it looked new. But alas it was a piece of junk car just like the Skylark. It never ran right, and the Buick dealer even had the nerve to tell my Dad that it was supposed to idle rough and stumble upon acceleration. I don't think that went over too well. After three bad GM products in the 1970s and 1980s, my Dad never bought GM again.

David, that's a sad report. But I also bought a new 1980 Skylark, and, while it served me for seven years and nearly 100,000 miles, I recall remarking to my parents that I felt betrayed by General Motors. "GM is handing market share to the imports on a platter", I said to them. The late-1970's and early-1980's was a very sad time for the American automobile. It still hurts that GM screwed it up so badly.

I think we can thank chief thug Roger Smith for that.

Beautiful car/model. I always thought the early to mid-60s Buicks were some of the best looking cars ever made. The 64 Buick Wildcat is one of all time favorites and the 65 was good looking too.

My first new car was a 1966 Skylark GS 400. I loved that car as much as anyone ever loved a car but in reality the quality of the build left a lot to be desired. I suppose back then most cars were that way as I had friends who had Ford products and friends who had Chrysler products and they weren't much better. The Japanese did more to improve American cars than anything else ever had. Today when I go to car shows and see restored cars of this era I think to myself GM, Ford and Chrysler should have built them this well.

I've owned many Buicks over the past 42 years but one of the best was my 1985 LeSabre Limited sedan I bought new. That Buick was so comfortable with it's pillow seats and I drove it for 17 years. It never left me stranded.
