A Huge Giant Thank you to Diecast Old Timers
At the time that I got started in this hobby (of which I was the youngest of age) Franklin Mint, Danbury Mint "COULD NOT" get up with the retail diecast demand. I had the huge honor of meeting Jay Olins in person in a mall at a Franklin Mint Mall store on the West coast of Florida.
Auction bidding was fiece.
I was just young lad wondering out loud are these prices for real?
I just could not believe what I was seeing.
But ladies & Gentlemen ... it was reall.
It was very real.
If you owned Danbury Mint Pierce Arrow diecast with opening trunk .... you were a diecast legend !!
I remember one day ... jumping in an auction.
I stood my ground.
I lost many. I was bruised.
But there was that one rare moment ... that I won.
And boy did ever like a big guy.
I remember asking a lot of stupid questions, but I always got an answer.
Information was handed down as to who was good to deal and visa versa.
I still have most of my diecasts that i bid on and won.
My mind is flooded with memories.
To this day .... I have shopping boxes that I never opend.
When the Post Office delievered the package, I saw who shipped it, wrote on the box what the year make and model ... and sut in the pile with the rest.
Sigh .... I will never own all these real cars on a 1 to 1 scale ... but I have these great diecasts and the details and just wonderful.
Just as all the old timers that took me under their wing, taught this young lad a thing or 2 about diecasts.
I remember announcing when my grandson "SKYLAR" was born
Cigars and refreshments for all!!!
Today ... SKYLAR will be 15 .. Aug 27

So ... to all of you DIECAST OLD TIMERS ... thank you so much.
The teachings, the spankings (dude - there used to be some all out brawls, but once the dust settled ... we were all back to diecast collecting) the sharing of information.
Most of all the friendships.
Thanks for all the diecasts.
Really ... 15 years ago ????
No wonder my hair is thinning and it is white !!!!
