A new look for Oldsmobile

Recently I purchased a second 1955 Oldsmobile Super 88 convertible with the thought of doing a complete repaint. However, the paint was in such good condition, glossy, no rash, that I decided on a partial repaint, keeping the red body portion. It was interesting to see how DM decided to carry off a two-tone paint job. All of the white painted parts are separate. The lower red section of each door is riveted to the upper white part which contains the hinge. The front clip is held on by six screws. Here it is partial disassembled: I decided on a two-tone matching interior with a carpet color change as well. The top of dash is part of the front clip casting. Here's the seats and door panels taped up, ready for paint. Engine compartment cowl and inner fenders painted, painted interior mocked up, dash top painted, and door partially assembled. I removed the spotlight and the right side rear view mirror from the door. I don't remember seeing too many '50's-'70's cars with these items. I disassembled the convertible top and removed the cloth top. I saved the little metal buttons for the rear top bow and made a new welting out of telephone wire. And the finished product. Thanks Pete. There are probably many other fabric glues, I think there is spray glue too. I remember this glue was difficult to work with as it dries fast. Also it is hard t find a good fabric, it has to be some form of microfiber. I think I went to Joann Fabrics to gather materials for this one.
