Black-over-red or red-over-black ?
I'm VERY excited about the new FM LE '55 Pontiacs. I chose the red-over black because to me it seems a bit "different" while the black-over-red seems more "conventional".
Before I made my decision I showed pictures of both to the people in my office. The women seemed to prefer the black-over-red while the men preferred the red-over-black. Somehow that seems to make sense to me, especially considering the interior colors of each.
Any thoughts ?

red over black by a mile.
I agree, Randy...I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts

Hmm
As I told Alan Frank in an email this week...the red top combo just simply is easier on the eyes. Maybe because the darker bottom reminds us of the road and the bright red top and tail reminds us of the motion ... almost as if it is the afterburner going off as it hurries down the highway. If that's too poetic then it just looks better than the other combo LOL.
Barry...for me it was simple.
I ordered both! The 55 Pontiac's by FM are among the few best cars they produced. The previous hardtop in turquoise (green?) and white is a personal favorite in my collection. The one flaw with the one I have though is that FM put "thin" white wall tires on it, which is incorrect as thin whites were not even available until 1962. I know they later corrected that error on that car, but I did not get one with wide whites.
I also have both the yellow/black and two-tone blue convetibles. This car was one of FM's hits.
So, yesterday I ordered both the red/black combinations and will look forward to displaying them.

Wish they had used the 2 different wheel styles for the 2 different color combos
Red over black with the wheel covers, and the "flashier" black over red with the wire wheels.

George, I agree that the 55 Pontiac is one of the best FM did. I also had to order both cars. Now if FM would do the same with the 55 Pontiac convertible with the same color combinations. 😡
I see all this crying that it is just another repaint. Funny thing is, I see several of the same people crying that 1/18th scale has all these new cars that they want to see in 1/24th scale. I don't see them crying that 1/18th scale cars are repainted several if not dozens of times. Oh well, can't please every one.
Red over black by a mile....
Sean...
Though I agree that FM has done their share of repaints over the years, I don't have a problem with a repaint when it is a good car.
Sometimes both mints produce a car that is not in a color that everyone likes, so by getting the repaints we have a second or third chance at it. In my case, I sometimes buy all the colors they produce. For me it adds diversity to my collection.
I wish FM would do a repaint on their 1954 Chevy hardtop that they did a few years ago, and also on their 1970 Olds 4-4-2. And they could give me another color in their 1951 Hudson too. I have the 3 different colors the Hudson has come in already, but FM did such a nice job on that car, I will gladly still take another color of it.

Barry, won't say I disagree with you, but
I'm glad to see the new color combo's, and it appears they got the white walls correct...so I'm happy.

Sure, not every one will like the different color combination offered. I understand that. If I like a car, I like to have it in different colors to. I would not mind if DM offered each of there cars in several different colors, like WCPD.
Maybe FM will do the 70 Olds 442 in some other colors. Black with red stripes or Yellow with black stripes IMHO would look great.
I was just referring to the people below who are so against any repaints.
I collect because I enjoy looking at the all the different cars and not because I think they will be my retirement fund. Hey, if a car goes up in value, great. If not, that is OK to.
Wow that's TWO miles now...Alan, love to hear your reason, too

Sean, FM's 4-4-2 in either of the colors you mention, would be awesome!
I'd buy both.

More personal preference than anything else. Just looks more 1950s to me.
