Good start to Chevy Week John!  This is neat little model that I don't have.  Not because I didn't want it, but more because when it originally came out, there were some minor quality issues with it.  I was working at the Franklin Mint store for a brief period of time at the Mall of America and this Corvair in some of the boxes we had in the storeroom had headlights that had fallen off the models and on some the doors would not stay closed.  So at the time, I passed on adding one.  In hindsight, maybe that wasn't a good idea.

That's a nice little car, I'm sorry that I passed on it.

Always liked these little Corvairs.  There was a period in time when I seriously looked to buy one to fix up.  They were relatively cheap on the used market.  I didn't but at least I have the model.  Now if I could find one of the Red/White ones I would be doing good.

I had two friends that had this car. The engine literally fell out of the car on both. That first gen Corvair with the Powerglide trans was a dog. 2nd gens had the Corsa and Monza models that gave the car some pizzazz.

BTW: was this model ever done in another color. I never bought this model as the plain-Jane white was kind of a turn off.

@rich-sufficool

it was done in red/white top. It just doesn’t have the charm and character this version does. I have it, but not that fond if it.

I owned a 1963 Spyder convertible when I got married in 1965. I can't speak to the performance of the Powerglide  cars but the Spyder and it's standard 4 speed was quite a nice performer. I traded the Spyder in 1966 for my first new car, a Buick Skylark GS 400 hardtop.
