bought one off ebay a few months back. It arrived with the windscreen displaced and excess glue on the window frame sides. I stuffed around and didnt return it in time for a refund so I've taken it to Mat, my young skilled modeler friend to repair as best he can given its condition. I plan to buy another one and sell Mats repair. These are 3 models currrently on sale on ebay. Each of them shows excess glue in the same area as mine. Does anyone who owns one have this problem? I'm thinking maybe a small bad batch?
Heres pics of Mats repair. I'm thinking I'll keep it.
Geoff, when these models were issued, quite a few of them were received with detached windshields. I think the excessive glue is the result of owners regluing them back in. I've bought four of these on eBay and two of them were overglued and one had a detached windshield. I've been able to clean them up and reglue them properly. This is a great model and one worth having in your collection, if just for the color combination alone!
thanks Pete, your explanation makes a lot of sense.
Geoff, I just examined mine and it does not have the excess glue. I think Pete's comments regarding the colors on this model make it a standout in any collection.
Way back when it was common knowledge that these were arriving from DM with a detached windshield. I won mine from the D4C auction back on February 11, 2006. It arrived with the detached windshield with small traces of glue. I carefully reglued it and its been fine ever since. Mine happens to be a pre-production prototype with no limited edition plate or number. The seller was from Maryville, TN.

OK guys. I don't know if any of you have ever seen or used this product. It's what I use to glue in my built model windows, headlight/taillight lenses. I had this Olds at one time, but since traded it off. I glued the windshield back in mine and it was virtual undetectable. A thin bead around the edge of the windshield done the job. It works that good. It goes on milky looking, but dries crystal clear. Just wanted to share a little trick. Its nice to have on hand.😊
thanks for the responses gents. Geno unfortunately TESTORS CLEAR PARTS CEMENT & WINDOW MAKER is not available here in Australia. I've put a U.S ebay watch on the cheapest one selling for around $50Aust, reminding me to keep looking out for one.
Try Elmer's glue, dries clear.
And Thanks for all the great tips and pictures over the years!

It's always good to see you post Pete! Regarding this particular Oldsmobile, I remember when it first came out that some collectors were mentioning the windshield issue. I received mine and have never had the problem spoken of. Obviously I feel lucky. I feel bad for those that have the problem. Like some have said, the two-tone color scheme on this model is worth having it in your collection. Though I still maintain that the roofline is not 100% to scale.

@georgeschire George, you are correct. The C pillar should be more rounded. Like this. It's still a beautiful model though. Like when DM used the convertible body to make the '60 Impala ht. Which has the shorter trunk lid versus a full length trunk lid the ht. should have. I still had to have it though.😁
@geno, thanks for sharing the pic of the REAL '55 Oldsmobile. And I 100% agree, even with DM's slightly off roof-line on their model, it's much to nice to ever pass up. I have it proudly displayed in a front row spot on my shelves. And of course it helps that I'm crazy nuts over any and all Oldsmobile's. I wish the mints would have given many more years of Oldsmobile models.

Okay, I checked my '55 Oldsmobile this morning. The windshield is perfect. I really do love this car! I remember how excited I was when the brochure arrived in my mail box, I made a bee-line for the phone and it was ordered. The color combo is just so Oldsmobile!

Glad to hear yours is perfect. LOL, and you prompted me to look at my LE #. I've got #14. I'd forgotten I'd had that low of a number.
