It's one thing to get a DANBURY MINT brochure in the mailbox.  It alone gives a rush as I anticipate opening it.  But upon seeing the release of a FAVORITE car, the rush is earthquake in nature.  Such was the case when I saw this OLDSMOBILE!  My wife understands (or perhaps accepts) my outbursts of excitement regarding these little cars, and she was well aware of it with this car.  I immediately was telling her 1955 OLDSMOBILE stories and I know she had no doubt that this car was one I'd not let pass.

The Limited Edition 1955 OLDSMOBILE Super 88 Holiday Coupe

In a two-tone color that I'd not remembered, it was a favorite at first sight.  DANBURY MINT calls it CORAL and SHELL BEIGE, but to my eyes it was BEAUTIFUL and BEAUTIFUL.  Realizing that DM had probably constructed a roof for their previously released '55 Convertible's, I've overlooked that the rear of the roof-line seems to just be a little off.  For me, this OLDSMOBILE is nothing short of a Main Event!

DM 55 OLDSMOBILE SUPER 88 #2
DM 55 OLDSMOBILE SUPER 88 #3

I would have purchased any other repaint color combo's DM could have given.

Love it. I got mine through our auction site back on 2/8/2006. The seller, Tony Perrone. It was shipped from Maryville, TN. It's the pre-production version prototype without the LE plate and number. The picture of this one appeared on the D4C Car List and Review section. Hopefully the picture will return when the list is carried forward to our new site. The 1:24 image is still looking beautiful parked in my display case.

It is a beautiful model. I'm not quite sure I recall receiving the brochure, but I checked this morning and I do have it. A perfect color combination for sure.

The '55 Olds style was never a favorite, but in the model, it is exceptional.

Love how we can differ.  The '55 Olds to my eyes is the star of GM's Fifty-Five line-up.  From 1953 through 1959, I thought Oldsmobile styling was over the top gorgeous.

59 OLDSMOBILE #242424 (2018 12 12 22 33 41 UTC)

And the dashboard of the '56 Olds will forever be my favorite dash on any car of the Fifties.

Well in model form, I agree with you. They are all exceptional. But as the 1:1, the '53 & '59 are the only ones that really caught my eye back in the day. Now, I am always thrilled to see any of them and have learned to appreciate the style so more than I used to.

@jcarnutz,

We are very much a like in that respect.  There are so many cars that in the day, I didn't think to give them a second look.  But now when I see them, I'm in awe at the styling and historical impact that they had on the automobile.  I've certainly learned to "never say never".

LOL, I've even found my myself gaining a fondness for the '61 Lincoln, and that's one car that I never thought I'd live to see the day when I'd say that.

Now you got me on that one. I remember your comments in the past and I am happy to see that. LOL! The '61 Lincoln, while clearly not liked by all, is one of my favorite designs. I remember seeing one as a kid and was blown away by the overall look. I've been fascinated by them ever since. By the way, my Dad always disliked the Lincoln as a whole, especially the early 60s Continental. He was never fond of any Ford as a rule, which was one of our constant disagreements over the years.

I'm glad to have this hardtop in my collection. My preference for the 55 and 56 Oldsmobiles is the 98 series as I think they are better proportioned with longer rear ends. In 1957 Oldsmobile knocked the ball completely out of the park IMO.

This merry Oldsmobile model is one the faves in my collection. I managed to snag one several years ago.  They are quite rare and pricey.  I love the Coral & Shell Beige color combo.

I agree with you about the Ninety-Eights and their longer rear ends,  And you know for sure I agree with you about the '57 Oldsmobile.  No car of the Fifties can top it.

@al_dorado, outstanding photos!  I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I didn't have this car in my collection.

Oldsmobile's advertising used to say, "Put a Rocket in your Pocket".  Smile

Those were the days when cars had character and they didn't all look alike. You could tell a cars year by the looks and not have to look on the title. Sure miss those good old days!!!!!
