My mother, the Manhattanite, absolutely loved the 1939 Worlds Fair. At the time, she was Executive Secretary (the 'glass ceiling') at the Research Institute of America, that always had visiting dignitaries and scientists visiting. Her after hours job was to entertain them during their stay, so she became an expert guide navigating the grounds. This intrepid couple are embarking on a 3000 mile pilgrimage to do the same.

Very cool Rich. Your mother had a job must would have envied. The model is absolutely perfect for the story.

@bob-jackman During the war years when everything was rationed, all there was for entertainment were those iconic night clubs like the Copacabana, Toots Shore's, the Stork Club, etc.. I still have my mother's collection of glass swizzle sticks and decorative tooth picks for olives and maraschino cherries. The pitfalls were being hit up by all these A-listers like Orson Wells. The worst stalker was the incredibly ugly William Casey who was an OSS bigwig and later became head of the CIA. My mother married in 1945 and even years later, living in the suburbs, some Nobel Prize winning economist looked her up and came to visit when I was about 10. I was expecting a limousine and he showed up in a Nash Metropolitan! What a let down!

What a marvellous setting to grow up in Rich. You have a fascinating family history and that World’s Fair image and your 3000 mile model trip is a fitting tribute. Thanks for sharing.
