Pics..'49 Mercs
When Danbury mint first came out with the '49 Mercury I had to have one. not long afterwards the door paint started wrinkling and the passenger door came loose, I replaced it with a good one bought from this website. this week sorting my boxes by car manufacturer I came across this forgotten diecast. I decided to repair and redo the car, sort of an
"altered diecast" project. realizing I could never duplicate the black paint on the doors I decided to paint them white instead and using a decal sheet to turn it into a patrol car, here is the result.

Here's the problem; that copper colored metal was loose, but after many frustrating tries it just wouldn't "fix" so I just super glued the door shut. At least I can still display it and have a little fun.

Removing the skirts with the Dremmel, cop cars don't have skirts do they?

Unit 714, in memory of Jack Webb and Joe Friday, I was a big fan of the cop show "Dragnet" I know, they drove Fords.

Nicely done David. Even a GM-guy 'like me' has to have this Merc in his collection. It's classic.
Nice job.
Nice job. It looks great.

Excellent work! I like it!!
The DM black 49 Mercury was the 2nd 1:24 diecast car I ever bought. The first one was the
DM 57 blue Chevy convertible (with closed trunk). I've always loved the 49 Mercury's and it remains in my personal Top Ten favorite cars on my shelf. I also have the other colors of the car released later.
