Did the spare tire really hang that low? I can't find any images that look that drastic.

You won't. DM got that part way wrong. It is one of the few issues with this model.

I am not sure what they did wrong for the wheel well. But all-in-all it is still a nice model.

Beautiful color on this Impala. Great photos, as always!

I could never get over this issue and haven't bought one.

I love and have all the DM 58 Chevy's. I do agree that the hanging wheel well is a flaw, but an even bigger flaw was the bronze/white hardtop DM issue of this car has a continental kit, and the hanging wheel well is there too.

But again I love these cars.

George, the wheel well was on all models even if they had a continental kit.

I owned a 1/1 58 Impala that had a factory installed continental kit and also the wheel well in the trunk. Agreed, the DM wheel well hangs down way too low. Also the rocker molding trim is too tall. Years ago someone on this forum sliced one of the ribs off of the trim and made it exactly correct looking.

Thanks Bob Jackman, I didn't know that about the wheel well on the 1.1 with a continental kit.

I have always thought the 58 Chevy was the best looking Chevy of the 1950s. I think reason being, it was a one-year look, and then changed drastically in '59.

Thanks again for the info! Hope you and family had a bountiful Thanksgiving.

Got this one because it has no continental kit and the blue color.

This will come as no surprise but that was Clifford Read who modified the '58 Chevy.
