This just in....
Had to glue a couple of small parts back on, but it's in really good shape. I needed this for my tri-five collection:

Nice one! Don't have it but have this one, of the first assembled ... PICs
Came recently from Roy's collection.
Love these rough early samples with unchromed and unpainted parts.

Chav, thanks for sharing this one. '56 is my favorite of the tri-5s. I want to ask a question...
I 've got the '56 - purple/grey hardtop and a couple different '56 convertibles (Sherwwod Greed / 2-tone blue) done by FM.
It's always been my thought that the reason that FM 'missed' on the roof-line of their '56 hardtop is because they used the windshield from the convertible. If the windshield is just a little too tall it would throw off the hardtop roof-line of the hardtop.
* Does this 'sample' give you the same feeling?
I've got the DM '56 hardtop and convertible. DM did a MUCH better job getting their roof-line correct on their hardtop ...in my opinion.
In fact, I've also got a couple of the JADA '56 hardtops. JADA did a better job than FM did with their roof-line as well.
Still... the FM '56 was done pretty well... especially their convertibles.
Billy, I don't know the answer but your guess is ...
very possible. FM obviously used the parts from the green/white convertible to create the hardtop, why not use the same mold for the windshield?
It is easy to compare the two windshields and I can do it in a follow-up post. However we first need to know if the 1:1 cars had a difference in the windshield height. Do you know that for a fact?
One thing that is obviously wrong with this prototype is that the windshield frame has to lay deeper in the in the body, in other words the bottom of the frame is too thick that ultimately increases the height of the roof line. Will compare it with the production version.
Will do, have many more, but can't do more than 2-3 per week. Thanks for the interest.
John Shamb ... That color combo on that year just melts my heart ... Have It Love It - THNX 4 pix
Chav, I understand your line of thought. I have no idea on 1:1 windshield's'. I'd bet...
... the windshields (glass) are the same; but, the frames / heights are different.
It is a curious thought to me. It's not my intention to be overly critical of FM. Some of my favorite 1:24s are from FM in which they did a fantastic job.
I do think that both of the Mints didn't pay enough attention to the '56. And I wish more versions had been done... especially the DM hardtop.
I hope that JADA will do more 'stock' versions of their '56. It is a very respectable model for the price.
I have '3' JADA '56 Bel Air hardtops.
And before you ask me for photos.... I use an old 'flip-phone' with a SAD camera feature. LOL! ...sorry.
Interesting, Chav. Thanks. Got any more of those prototypes?
Even though the roof line doesnt look quite right - this is a great issue and color combo
I do, different subjects though...
I do agree that both mints have issues with the '56's
I have another post coming for the 56 cabriolet ...
Looking forward to it.
One of my favorites. Only wish the roof-line was correct like DM's 56.
