After working with white metal, inexact joints, and other problems associated with the 1/43 kits of a generation or so ago, I turned this time to one that has proven itself in the more recent past and present - Bburago. This Italian firm builds, among other things, good kits of relatively recent automobiles, with diecast pre-painted bodies, carefully measured molds for their plastic parts, and snap together construction. For the neophyte builder, or any builder with shaky skills, Bburago kits are special.
But then even those kind of builders might want the detailing that makes a model more realistic. That calls for just a little painting, as in window edging and interior detailing, that can be done very slowly and carefully. Bburago also provides decals, little tiny bits of material that can be soaked, separated, and applied for lights, markers, emblems, and the like. Kudos to this company for sending along duplicates of these small decals; I used several of them. I couldn't get the headlights exactly straight, somehow.
My model of choice this time is the Volkswagen New Beetle, with detailing that marks it as circa 2004. Bburago has made kits of other versions of this same Beetle, so be cautious if working on more than one. I liked the shade of green, an authentic VW color.
So here is my little photographic essay, complete with a dime for size comparison.

Thanks for the post and pics David!
It couldn't be from 1990, because the new Beetle made its debut in 1997.....how do I know?
I was a VW tech during that time.
Are the headlights missing?
@ben-lampson Thanks for your good comments, Ben. I adjusted the year, and I also forgot to mention my problems with the headlights. They're straighter now.
