Welcome to my 4th installment of the classic 1953 British sports cars by Dinky. The DB3S was a replacement for the DB3 which was heavy and uncompetitive in racing. The DB3S was a racing car first, so it's curious that Dinky made a road car, but I guess they needed to round out the 101 to 105 series. This is the only one of the series that lacked a clear windscreen, but Dinky was just beginning to make formed plastic parts for the curved windshields that were becoming commonplace. Road cars were No. 104 (1957-1960) and 110 (1955-1959). The salmon pink 104 is original store stock, purchased for a whopping $1.25.
Once again the molds were sent to France, where a racing version was made with spun concave wheels and several race numbers. Made from 1960 to 1961, its catalog reference was No. 506.
BTW, we moved into our new home in 1990. I think a field mouse thought it was still his territory, and chewed a few of my prized Dinky boxes, including the one for my light blue Aston. I think some traps and poison took care of that problem.
My fave was always the grey racer.
