When I sent the '38 Buick photos to the cloud, I came across this one and since I just read an article about this car a few days ago, I thought the coincidence meant I should share it again.
1966 Duesenberg Model D Concept Car - Matrix Models (A little bit of background. The idea was conceived in the early 1960's by Fred "Fritz" Duesenberg, son of original co-founder August Duesenberg. It was designed by famed Chrysler designer Virgil Exner and his son, with coachwork handcrafted in Italy by Carrozzeria Ghia. Unfortunately, after the financial backing pulled out, the project was abandoned and just the one car was built. Another very unique example of a storied legend.

It's a great model, and getting hard to find. You gotta wonder if the 1:1 would have sold.

Not sure if it's Casper, but it's definitely something. I'm positive I didn't see that reflection in the camera lens when I took the photos, LOL!

About a year ago, Leno featured this -now restored- car. He mentioned there was a fair amount of interest, and c.65 $5,000 deposits were excepted (apparently one from Elvis ). The investment community, however, was not so enthusiastic. Fritz never secured the funds needed to begin production.
IMO, because this '66 Duesenberg was really just a high-styled Chrysler, I doubt hundreds would've been sold. A "true Duesenberg," proprietary engineering, design, etc., would've had, IMO, a greater chance.
....but again, no money - just a man with a vision.
It's terrific to see a scale model of this car! 😎 😀

Anyone remember the 1:25 Renwall kits of "what ifs" from the mid-1960s? They made 5 or 6 of them, and, besides this "Duesenberg", a Mercer and a Bugatti made it to 1:1. The Bug actually had late Bugatti underpinnings (chassis 101506) with design by Virgil Exner and body production by Ghia. The Mercer was on a Cobra chassis (CSX2541) and was also an Exner design. Matrix made these in 1:43.
