License tage for some cars (pics)
These came in today's mail, found on eBay and sold by jim16 as license plates 1/43 toys & hobbies.

He has several different styles (dates, locations, etc.). I like them because they are not decals. I just used a dab of glue.

Too bad they don't make a sheet of antque tags - these would look great on any old car.

PICs Harvey, they also make 40s and 50s plates, not sure about 30s.

It lets you create plates for any State and for different years. For some odd reason they now only seem to offer a limited selection of years for any given State (I thought I used to be able to manually insert any date but now you are limited to a selection.) But they do go back to the 30s and 40s - and appear to stop in 1999! Maybe they've stopped updating the site, but it still works.
Select a State in the lower drop-down menu, type in your chosen plate name/number in the upper left-hand box, then hit "Make license".
You can right-click on the resulting image and save it as a picture. Resolution is only 76 dpi and the image is too big to use as it is (about 7x3 cm) so you'd probably need to put it in a photo editor to raise the resolution to print quality (200dpi) and scale down the image size to fit.
Obviously you also need access to a colour printer.
Maybe sounds like too much trouble for a lot of folks, but for anyone wanting custom full-colour plates for a particular State and era, it might be worth a try.
