Minichamps/Action produced 7 models of race cars that honored the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. I set about last year finding them all and have all but one now.
Action AC4 011404 is the Corvette which ran at Petit Le Mans in late 2001, finishing 6th and 1st in class. The decoration stands on its own.
MC 400 010108 is the Benetton-Renault of Jensen Button that placed 9th at the US GP at Indy, a few weeks after 9/11. I was able to go to the race and see this and the other F1 cars in action. A USA flag is on the sides. MC 400 010107, Fisichella's 8th place Benetton, is on my wish list. Note that the Corvette and the F1 cars have a somber outer card shield.
Both Minardis from the same race DNF'd. Once again a USA flag is on the flanks. These are MC 400 010220 and 010221.
MC 400 016976 is the Porsche 911 GT3RS from Gunnar Racing that was 24th at the Grand Am Finale. The black band across the nose was a symbol of respect for the victims and their families.
Finally there is the Audi R8 Team Champion (MC 400 018938) that placed 3rd at the Petit Le Mans. As near as I can tell, the flags on the rear wing endplates made this a "9/11" car, since I didn't see these on Champion entries from the June Le Mans race.
I don't think the latter two (Porsche and Audi) had the special outer box but if any one has info to the contrary LMK. Likewise leads on the Benetton I need - There a couple on ebay but they lack the outer display case shroud.
Fantastic! Well worth owning; great tribute!!
Nice set of models and the appropriate day for this post.

What a wonderful way as a collector to remember 9/11, Harv. I knew about the Corvette C5-R but not about the Button car even though I attended the USGP at Indy that year. I attended Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta in 2001 also. A busy time as they were only one week apart. (Sept.30 and Oct.6). Thanks for sharing.
@david-green Wow David - we were in the same crowd together at Indy. Wonder why I didn't see you amongst a half million other fans.
Amazing we did not meet…Not. I was in front row of the upper grandstand over the starting grid, at Indy. Had the same spot for several years.
