[PICS] 1960 Chevrolet Impala by Neo

I can never get enough of the '60 Chevrolet (just a small personal obsession) so I was interested to see that Neo have done a 2-door Sport coupe.

Although we have been knocking Neo quite a lot recently, I think many of us still think they can do great things when they're having a good day. Unfortunately, I don't think this was a good day. Late Friday afternoon at the drawing board and in a hurry to get off to the pub.

It isn't ALL bad, the basic distinctive body shape and features are all there. nothing seriously wrong or mis-shapen. But the chrome around the grille is pretty gross - about 3 times as thick as it should be. More like a loop bumper than a grille surround, making the grille itself looked squeezed.

The slender chrome "spear" running back along the waistline ridge from the middle of the door is also far too broad and heavy. In the rear view below you can see that the chrome on the rear edges of the fins is also quite clumsy. In fact, it looks like someone at the factory gave a nine year old child a sheet of Bare Metal Foil and a pair of blunt scissors and let them get on with it.

Note also that the rear roof pillars are too fat, with a broad band of white body colour between the rear window chrome and the side window chrome which as far as I can tell shouldn't be there at all. And the rear glass doesn't curve round at the sides to meet the pillars, it's almost flat.

Goodness me, I've got a 1:64 version by Racing Champions which almost does a tidier job than that.

Smack on wrist. But maybe some folks will think its good enough to go on the shelf?

Some Neos are good but this one is a piece of garbage...like their '56 Bel Air.

The sad part [for collectors] is that they can make a great model, when they care to.

Perhaps somewhere in the world where folks have never seen a 1960 Chevrolet, this may sell. But otherwise it won't.
Why go to the trouble of tooling, molding, hiring assemblers and distributors if you don't bother to use researchers? The competition is too fierce now to bother producing a hundred-dollar miscue.

+1 So true. Its a practice that eventually turns customers away for good.

I really wanted to like this one.

But I agree with you Graeme on all counts. Roof is also too low and too raked.

Another miss, I am afraid. Disappointing and as you all point out, unnecessary.
