PICs - Daily Dose of Diecast...Wednesday 1953 Lincoln Capri Hardtop
-Issued by Precision Miniatures (not sure when)
-This is the first white metal model I added to my collection that wasn't a Brooklin Model. I don't know much about this company or the model itself.

Precision Miniatures became Motor City USA, this model was issued in 1979 and was mastered by Dick Armbruster who was the pattern maker for many Motor City USA and Durham Classics models that you will undoubtedly have seen on this Forum and perhaps your own collections. I wrote extensively and featured many photos of this model and its Motor City USA successors in my book, Ford in Miniature.

I believe our own Wayne Moyer and both Ford model expert Dave Turner and Bruce Arnold also reviewed this model and wrote about its history (in Model Auto Review). This is where the white metal business began to take off in North America, IMHO.

On page 10 of this link is the Motor City USA version of this car as a convertible, updated a dozen or more years later:

That's really a beautiful Lincoln, John.

I still think the white metal models, when done well as is this Lincoln, have a look and feel that is unique to metal models. This car looks so real.

You left out Gene Parrill, Randall. Precision began as kits...

....and I once had many of them. Ferraris, the Corvette Carrera Panamerica car, Indy cars - they ran the spectrum. On a whirlwind visit to L.A. in 1982 I went by Marque Products, just as Gene's machinery was cranking out some white metal Hudsons.

Yes and Lloyd Asbury, too. Didn't they have their HQ in Huntington Beach?

52 Lincoln

Hi Sheldon; That one was not done by PM. It is one of a few I made into a 52 from the 53 Santa Claus model. You can tell by the German glass headlights I used.

Hi Albert. Thanks. You can search using the title and my name and it should take you directly to the publishers for these two books. Ford in Miniature and GM in Miniature are still widely available on the secondary market. Let me know at randallolson AT telus dot net if you run into any trouble. Thanks for your interest!
