This is the total of my 1/43 haul from the Shenanigans weekend = one iguana!
Tennessee Williams' play, The Night of the Iguana, came out in 1961 and the movie followed in 1964. The Alfa Romeo Iguana concept car came out in 1969 and was designed by the famous Giorgetto Giugiaro. I wonder if he saw the movie? I doubt it... 😉  His Iguana was one of a six concept cars based on the 33 Stradale, the late 1960s supercar that all Alfisti drool over. His Iguana now resides in the Museo outside Milano.
Both Politoys and Mebetoys made copies in 1/43 in Italy after the real concept came out. They brightened up the silvery gray and both mine are yellow. The green boxed one from Countryside is made in Kyiv, Ukraine, by the Vatutin Electromechanical Toy Factory, well before the iron curtain fell. Lore has it that they and other Soviet factories got the old Politoys and Mebetoys tools and dies and produced them with cheaper baseplates, wheels, etc. The 2 on the right do seem to be twin castings!
More recently, Tecnomodel, Italy (non-prototypical red), and then Matrix, China, came out with very nice resin versions.
Which do you prefer?

They are all great .... it would be difficult to choose ! It looks like a terrific haul from the Chicago show and although I haven't really been doing much driving lately, I am going to try and make the next show. There are so many excellent models and people to meet there and it is certainly in the neighborhood.
Hi Karl,
I like the silver in the last two pictures but I like that red one even more.
