I loved my '95 SS.....

...and sometimes I wish I had never sold it. Dark Green-Gray... I used it as my everyday driver, it was a great cruiser, the ONLY downside with it was it was TERRIBLE in the snow.
I now drive a Infinit G35 sedan, which I love too.
My weekender is a black on black '98 Corvette Coupe. I replaced the original, for 1998, thick-spoke wheels with a set of 2004 chrome thin-spoke wheels. The only really visible difference between the C5 model Vettes is the wheels, so it still looks like a stock vehicle, only a newer model. Only 32K on it and it looks like the day it left the showroom.

Appreciate the additional info.It confirms mine is an early model and the rear logo is not applied correctly.

Alex ...

Is the Magnum available in the U.K. or did you had to place a special order? The Magnum isn't available here, only the 300C.

What I drive, well guys, I'm at the bottom of the totem pole here. I drive a '96 Chevy Silverado regular cab short box 4WD Z71 pickup. I special ordered this truck exactly the way I wanted it. Due to a strike or two among parts suppliers, it took about five months to receive it. I love this truck, the first year for the Vortec 350. It performs like a '60s muscle car, does 0 to 60 in under 8 seconds, will cruise 90 at 2500 RPM. Yes it guzzles gas but I've driven a total of about 4000 miles a year since retiring in '04 so I don't care. I've thought about buying a new truck in the same configuration but it would be out of warranty before it was broken in. Took this truck into the mountains of Colorado, Wyoming and Utah years ago, It never once shifted down on the upgrades, passed all the rice rockets etc which have horsepower but no torque. I now have what I've always wanted, an old Chevy pickup.

No, Dirk, it's a bit more complicated... [PICs] ... but, here's the story (hope you won't get bored!):

Released as 2005 models these two were supposed to fill in their respective niches in the North American market: Chrysler 300 as a Sedan (4-door saloon to the English) and Dodge Magnum as a Wagon only.

Chrysler 300 was launched in Europe and UK as 300C (irrespective of its engine size) and is built in Austria (that's why it's called Touring - German term for Wagon/Estate). In late 2005, early 2006 the marketing guys at Daimler-Chrysler realised that they could sell an estate version of 300 in addition to the sedan, BUT... there was none, so they desided to put Chrysler's front clip (end) onto Magnum and sell it across the EU.

Well now, the success of this plastic surgery has been so huge that Chrysler 300 Wagon is now marketed as a 2008 model in the N. American market.

Dodge does not sell Magnum in EU, only Caliber and very limited number of Rams. However, my wife and I, liked Magnum since we saw it first in LA so much, that we decided to have one, and - indeed, ours is imported from the US. People here, in Britain, are getting used to seeing Chrysler 300, but our Magz (so far) hasn't failed to draw some positive attention.

Here they are, side by side.

Leon, in my book, you, Tim, John S., Dirk and some other are on the top of the list, as I believe...

... one should do as one preaches. We all are into American cars one way or another, so why not own one or drive one on a daily basis. We are the people who are interested in US car history, so why not support the legacy of US automotive industry and do stand by our beliefs.

I don't intend to offend anybody here, but this is what our UK based American car owner's clubs stand for. If you like American - drive American.

Thanks for the story Alex ...

I've only seen 1 Magnum passing by here, it was completly black (windows, rims, ...)
I had my original grill being replaced by a Startech Bentley style grill.

The one I had... had all three leaping impala badges upside down - still a good model of a legend!

I feel a bit ordinary in this company!

But then again I can out-corner any of you!

Who do you think you are, Stirling Moss?

I understand that a cop said that to the great one after stopping him for a traffic infraction.

Some folks showed up at Goodwood this year wearing T-shirts with that printed on them! Cool!

Thanks for your comment Alex.

I have been reflecting on the state of the car industry and the industry in general, What has happened? Why can't Jaguar, Volvo, Saab, Aston Martin, Land Rover etc produce their unique vehicles at a profit without selling out to Ford or GM or whomever? They used to be able to do it. What has really changed? I spent 32 years with a manufacturer of large agrriculural 4 WD tractors in quality assurance, I saw the sheet metal go from 1/4 inch to very thin gage metal over the years as well as cheap offshore suppliers providing parts we had nothing but trouble with. If anyone can provide answers I'd like to hear them. Is it just greed? Sorry for the rant and if it's inappropriate for this boad I'm sure Dick will deleat it.

Dirk and Alex - If I had to replace my Maxima I'd likely go with the Chrysler Touring. Very Nice!

Thanks, Randall! And of course North American 300 and Magnum are built in Canada, talking of..

... seven degrees of separation ๐Ÿ˜‰
