While taking the pics of the Rambler wagon ....

... I took the opportunity to photograph my recently acquired Goldvarg '61 Chevy Impala. Very handsome and illustrates the current state of the art in 1:43 production.

However, models this good only encourage us to examine them more closely, and I was distraught, not to say traumatised, to discover that while the "Impala" bardge on the left rear flank is perfectly positioned and clearly legible

the right-hand one is misplaced and unreadable

It looks like it may have drifted around in a blob of glue before settling down. Note also one or two little "bobbles" on the bodywork, the sight of which was almost enough to make me take to my bed and cry myself to sleep.

Oh my, if that was all one had to worry about. Well, actually, it IS all I have to worry about, which is why I am such a happy little chap (and don't anyone dare suggest otherwise, said he, with just a hint of steely menace).

I am now awaiting the arrival of the '61 Pontiac. My scanning electron microscope is warming up even as we speak.

The right side lettering is attached inversely - all you need is a mirror 😉

Graeme, when building models, I sometimes attempt to apply tiny little decals; they do float! It's amazing how a single small drop of water can provide a surface to let them move a long distance, sometimes a quarter of an inch. As for placing them upside down? Well, I don't even attempt to work with decals without my glasses and my handy magnifying glass.
Please try to strengthen yourself through this traumatic experience. There will be a brighter day . . . sometime.

Oh, the hazards of having models built by those who don't speak the language....

Dear Graeme,

I see in your photo the "Impala" letters issue.
Please send me your address to my email "info@goldvargcollection.com", so I can replace the model. Best regards, Sergio.

And he didn't require destruction of the old one like Automodello did!

Dear Sergio

Oh my, now I am embarrassed.

Having cried myself to sleep I woke up this morning feeling a little calmer and found your unbelievable offer of a replacement model.

I would not for one moment ask you to replace it. It is a terrific model and no-one would see anything wrong with it unless they got down on their hands and knees with a magnifying glass. The small details I pointed out simply mean I am the proud owner of a handbuilt model that is 99.95% correct rather than 100% and I have no complaint at all.

I was just making the point (in my usual tongue-in-cheek way) that you are making models for serious collectors who can be very, very picky when they have nothing better to do.

So thank you for the very generous offer, but believe me, I am very happy with it and no replacement is required.

The real pity is that certain other model manufacturers (who shall be nameless) are unwilling to even acknowledge much worse faults in their models, let alone offer refunds or replacements.

So you can rest easy. Just remember we are watching you closely, that's all I'm saying.

Best regards

Floating decals

Hi David; When taking the decal from the water touch the edge to a paper towel to eliminate the excess water and it will not float.

Thanks, Fred. I learned that nice method a while back, purely by accident.

Dear Graeme, thanks so much for your kind words!

I really appreciate it! But if you want, please feel free to accept my offer of changing the model. I will be more than happy if you are 100% satisfied with my model. Just let me know. Best regards! Sergio
