Small scale diorama creation
After watching a few Youtube videos on making 1:64th scale dioramas which included constructing buildings I was enthused but lacked the necessary skill level. The next day I was wandering around a local collectors market when I found a stall selling Hornby Skaledale buildings and accessories. Although Skaledale is for OO gauge railways and is therefore 1:76th scale I thought that they could be used as a backdrop for my 1:64th scale model car collection. Also, using ready made Skaledale items would fast track any diorama I would be making building wise. The vendor had a nice range both boxed and unboxed and I made my selection. What I liked about the Skaledale buildings is that being resin they feature details that are 3D unlike the card versions that appear flat.
The street scene diorama is a work in progress and comprises the following Skaledale buildings:
R9632 Golden Dragon Chinese Takeaway
R8621 Left Hand Mid-Terraced
R8622 Right Hand Mid-Terrace
R9650 Country Garage
The toy car in the image is a Tomica #40 Chevrolet Camaro is 1:66th scale and features working suspension along with opening doors and represents the standard issue based on the Camaro ZL1 available in black. This model, and the red version below, were available from December 2017 until February 2021. In this shot I am setting out ideas for the diorama and seeing if I can use balsa wood for the pavements and to see how the building would contact in this street scene I was setting.

The toy car in the image is a Matchbox #32 Jaguar ‘E’ Type coupé is 1:65th scale and was available from 1962 to 1965 in their 1-75 series. In the early 1960’s toy cars like this did have seats, steering wheel and windows, however, it is the intricate spoke wheels that set this miniature above the contemporary competition. The finish is especially good and overall this is an impressive rendition of Jaguar’s sleek coupé. This model is a perfect fit for the garage.
The model car in the image is a Tomica Limited Vintage (TLV) LV-25b Isuzu Hillman Minx was issued in 2006. There were a few released in a range of colour ways with LV-25b featuring a white upper and blue lower body with the interior upholstery being blue and white. This model is 1:64th scale features working suspension. TLV are aimed at collectors and have amazing detail for this scale. In this image I am seeing if the corner take away works when taking close-up photos.
I have made significant progress since these photos were taken and will show the latest results soon.

These buildings look pretty. There are many 1/64 scale buildings available but most replicate modern architecture; I like these vintage buildings.
Those scaledale buildings are impressive. I will have to look for them. Nice to see your model selection. I have not seen the Tomica Hillman before, a must have. Thanks Chris.

There are a few on ebay David...fyi.
All of that looks great, Chris ! Excellent diorama set-ups that work fine for either display or photography.
This street scene diorama is still a work in progress but I have sorted out the road and pavements. I used emery paper for the road surface which was painted and the pavement was made from balsa wood strips. Using a pencil I was able to draw the pavement slabs. These pavement pieces need to be glued in place.
The model car in the image is a Kyosho KY101023 Ferrari 330 P4 Race Car #6 and is 1:64th scale. Not really the type of car to be seen outside a British outline terrace house street but it was easy to get at! Kyosho models are aimed at collectors and have amazing detail for this scale.

Here is a close-up of the Hornby Skaledale R9650 Country Garage from the diorama I am creating. The interior needs to sorted and I noticed there is a plumbing issue regarding the down pipe from the top of the roof guttering. However, the building does work well and there are a choice of miniature garage interior fittings available to support this part of the setting.
The model car is the Kyosho Ferrari that appeared in my previous post.

@chris Hi Chris, the 1:64th scale scene is mainly new performance cars from the like of Liberty Walk etc... so the buildings need to fit in. Skaledale are for British outline model railways and vintage buildings like these are still found in the UK today and for a modeller they work from the latter C19th to today.
