This 1990 Miata owned by Dylan Sharpe in Hamilton , Canada is likely the lowest mileage first generation Miata (Eunos Roadster elsewhere). It was trailered to the Concours to maintain its only current 29 miles.
Built in Mazda's Hiroshima plant the MX-5 debuted in 1989 at the Chicago Auto Show. The Lotus Elan was used as a benchmark and the engine was used as part of the rigid central frame just as with the Elan.
This red Miata was a grand prize at the Flamingo Casino in Las Vegas in 1989, then parked in a storage container for 30 years before being sold to Mr. Sharpe and displayed at the Cobble Beach Concours last weekend.
I still own my 1994 Mazda Miata in British Racing Green. This one has all the extras not available in 1990 such as leather seats, power windows, high end radio and ABS.
Still totally original but now with 117 K kilometres.
WOW! That's an exciting story. And yours, David, looks like brand new as well. The car drives so much like '60's British sports cars, I fell in love with them and owned 4 of them. I didn't put a lot of miles on mine but WAY more than 29!
Thanks David!

I had a 91 in red. It was one of the most engaging and reliable cars I've ever driven. It did everything the Elan did without breaking down!!

@sizedoesmatter I'm with you John. I can't imagine owning a collector car and not driving it.
Thanks for pictures and history of the cars. I never owned a Miata, but did own a pair of RX-7s. I drove each over 100,000 miles. I also believe cars are meant to be driven.

The Miata is a fine and bulletproof sports car which I prefer in BRG.
great story and pics, thanks David

I'm "one of those guys." Oh sure, the cars get "exercised" every now & then but half the fun for me is just having it.
Very nice looking MX5 - especially in the racing green with tan upholstery.
