Joop, that's an EMC E1 variant, built in 1937 & '38 w/c.2000 hp. I've been on F1s (the cousins of these that came later ) and a few steam engines too! Being model RR-er (N-scale ) I have many period photographs. One of my gems, is a book (I have 2 copies 😀) LOADED with ALL color photos of American trains from the late 1930's - the early '60's.
Nice pic, thanks for sharing.
LOVE it; always have. I currently have one in HO scale.
All my HO scale trains are packed away. Hoping to see the light again one day, but not without a bigger house which is not going to happen.
The Santa Fe Warbonnet is probably the most photographed train ever. I can't say that I was ever on a Santa Fe train but I was many times on the Illinois Central City of New Orleans powered by E 8 A&B units. John my N scale trains are also packed away because when we down sized 27 years ago, I lost my train room which had been on the second floor of our other house. I could have divided off a space in the garage of this house but I had 1/1 scale collector cars to put in it.
I have travelled on passenger trains, both in and outside, the US. I never travelled on the Santa Fe. My model trains are 1/64 scale (S scale).

Loving the pic and the train. I've never traveled on one. I currently have an "O" gauge layout in my basement. One engine dates back to 1946 and another one from the mid 1950s.

@sizedoesmatter Growing up in the forties and fifties, my dad a Lionel layout in our basement. Wonderful memories.
I always wanted a HO-scale Centipede, but sellers are US-based and that's where Customs comes in, since I am in the Netherlands.
