A Mustang coupe, the registration expired in 2019.  The body looks pretty good except for the surface rust on the hood and roof.  All badging has been removed and it's missing the backlite trim and drip rail moldings. The 5-lug wheels tell me its powered by a 289 V8 and it's a 1966 by the gas cap and interior dash pad. This would be a pretty cool little car to tool around in.

Looks like the same formula...derelict cars and neglected property go hand in hand.  I'd bet the two car garage is packed with useless junk.  The Mustang body appears to be in descent condition. Has the potential as a sweet ride to run around town.

In better overall shape than the rest but still in need of a total redo. I'm with you - with some work, it could be a really nice ride!!

GREAT series Pete!

Nice spot. For a car that has been sitting for years, the body seems to have held up reasonably well. The rust looks manageable from the photos, and it definitely has potential as a restoration project.

Pete, I love me some Stangs that’s why ‘mustangboi’ is part of my address. From your pic I don’t see any optional trim just before the rear wheel wells so I assume there isn’t any.

It is an extremely nice automobile and Mustang, even as it waits quietly in it's present state. It certainly deserves a complete restoration but, regardless, it will eventually take it's rightful place in automotive heaven !

If I lived in the neighborhood I would be prone to stopping by and asking if they needed any help with the lawn and offer to do it tidy it up for no cost, although not today, as I fell on the walk in our garden yesterday and I am a bit under the weather.

It is likely the home of a retired person who has very limited means and may be alone, with no support circle of friends left.  During the clean-up a discussion about the Mustang is sure to come up and perhaps there is an opportunity.  Good will can create change and, if nothing else, I would have helped someone in a small way.

@100ford2003   Thank you.  I was doing some edging with one of my Ryobis and somehow managed to land on my side, hard.  I was at the end of the garden, by the south gate and away from the house, but fortunately I had my cell with me and I was able to dial the house or I would have been lying there for hours.  My spine is slowly breaking down between the shoulder blades and at the lower end and the fall was on my left side, where my hip was replaced a few years ago, so today has been painful.  Unfortunately, I am on blood thinners as well and I left my mark on the walkway as a future reminder to watch my step.  As Clint Eastwood remarked, 'Aging is not gentle.'

@gdh So sorry to hear of your injury.  Wishing you a speedy recovery.

@100ford2003  Steve, concerning the side trim on the Mustang, it looks like the owner removed all of it.  I'm sure you're familiar with the side scoop ornament on both the '65 and '66 Mustangs.

1965 Mustang Side Profile Web
1966 Mustang side

The ornament was standard on coupes and convertibles and deleted on the 2+2s (fastbacks). It was also deleted on coupes and convertibles with the GT option package.  Also, 1965 coupes and convertibles with the exterior decor option (accent stripe and rocker moldings) had the ornament deleted as well as 1966 Mustangs with the accent stripe option. This is my 1965 with the exterior decor option:
