OK, I'm back with another Around the Neighborhood. Sorry for the long pause. I had knee surgery last week and didn't feel like doing much of anything. But I'm on the mend and nearly 100% with a few minor issues. That said, here's what I found on my way to the orthopedic office last Thursday:
1965 Lincoln Continental sedan. It looks like someone started doing some body work at one point in time and maybe lost interest. I was going to ring the doorbell, but there was a locked gate and cameras all over the place, so I'll check back and maybe I can find the owner outside one day. As some of you might know, I sold my '65 Continental in 2019 after 20 years. When I bought my Continental, I purchased a parts car as mine sat at an impound yard for close to 10 years, so I have plenty of parts that this car could use. This was my beast on its inaugural Route 66 trip two weeks after I put it together.

First and foremost, take it easy as you recoup from your surgery - that's a major issue. I seriously doubt that Continental will ever look like yours did - it was gorgeous!
I took a good bit of the Route 66 on my way home when I left California to go home after getting out of the Army in 1968. I bought a new MGB and allowed myself 2 weeks to just drive & explore the countryside. What fun.

Pete sounds like the surgery was a success...easy does it with your recovery. Your recent discovery does not appear in too bad a shape. Hope all goes well with the owner. Love your '65, great job with the restoration. Best of show from where I'm sitting. Great series Pete, keep it up.

Glad you're feeling better Pete. I recall you telling the story of taking the Route 66 in your Lincoln. When I lived in St. Louis we lived just a couple of blocks from Route 66 and in 1973 I decided to do the Route 66 trip in my 1961 Corvette which I still own today. I doubt at my age today that I could repeat that feat in that car but I believe I could in your Lincoln with the luxury ride and creature comforts. Love the "around the neighborhood" feature and look forward each new addition.

A road trip can work miracles mentally and physically. I went from SoCal north to Redding and on to the Ca / Oregon border and came down the coast. What a great trip.

Thank you, guys! The knee is nearly pain free. The only thing I can't do is kneel on it----OUCH!
Doing the Route 66 trip in the Continental was a dream come true---smooth, powerful, and comfortable, even on the old alignments which were overgrown and not frequently traveled.
This is one of my favorite pics, taken before I sold it.

When you lived in St. Louis, I bet you frequented this place and had a Concrete or two!
I love Ted Drews, just wish it was closer!

@pete-rovero Yes sir. Ted Drewes was about 8 miles from our house. On summer evenings we would take rides in the Corvette and end up there. Always met folks who were driving Route 66 and having great conversations about where they were from. One evening a couple from Arizona came in a 62 red Vette. The man's wife mentioned her husband had a model collection which started a lengthy conversation leading them to follow us home to see mine. Yes I would always have the concrete while Lori always had just a cup. When folks would come in in a collector car, the second item was always free which encouraged owners to come in their special car. Virtually every night was a car show. While we have been away from St. Louis for thirty nine years, every time I go back Ted Drewes is a must have stop as long as it's open from April through October.

@pete-rovero Wow that was a tight fit. Getting out of the Lincoln had to be quite the exercise. The Caprice is still an occupant is it not?

Yes Bob, I still have the Caprice. It would be hard to part with that one. Getting out of the Lincoln wasn't too bad, just slide across the leather bench seat!
