I read that. I can see why most makers want to move to electric-powered vehicles. We could debate the pros and cons all day, but they're coming either way. However, I do hope I'll be able to buy a car powered by an internal combustion engine from someone in the coming years.

I rode in a Tesla S 100. The acceleration was thrilling, handling was on par with just about any other full-size car. I don't doubt its credentials as a sport sedan. It's incredibly fast in a straight line but handles the twisties with poise and confidence. It is also comfortable.

For me, I want the visceral experience of hearing my engine and shifting my own gears.

I'm fairly certain that by 2035 I won't care one way or the other. I only hope that the nation's power grid is increased to handle the load. Everyone talks about the virtues of electric cars and the environment but no one seems to think about how the fuel needed to power the plants needed to produce the electricity needed to charge the batteries needed to power these cars is going to be found. Also, what happens to the batteries when their useful life has ended?

I agree, Bob. The batteries will be a major challenge. We can only hope that the carbon footprint of electric cars will shrink some as they learn more about how to produce them. Few people realize how efficient the internal combustion engine really is.

What pathetic nonsense from "GM". A lot of pandering and/or cowardly calculations that they will be forced by dictates to toe a big-brother imposed line.

There's an article about recycling on the first page of Jalopnik.com  I just read an hour ago. Essentially, tired batteries are used in powerplants for storage, while dead batteries are taken apart and the constituent parts reused.
