Graeme; don't be afraid to dip your toe....in fact I recommend you jump right into our Forumite pool of intelligentsia....you won't believe  the scope of mind expanding conversation; plus we have an awesome cannonball contest in the deep end.

I'm not quite sure if that invitation is entirely genuine and spontaneous. It seems just a little bit too contrived and ... well ... artificial?

Regarding the original question of how AI might affect the forums, and whether our esteemed administrators have made any preparations for dealing with this existential threat, I did a little digging and found my way to the "Rules of Procedure for Forum Moderators" (a document normally kept well out of sight of run-of-the-mill forum users).

These extracts may be enlightening:

Article 278(b)(2)(iii) – A forum post submitted to The Lounge which displays a barely acceptable or comprehensible level of literacy and shows relatively serious shortcomings in logical reasoning or social awareness, an inadequate understanding of the subject under discussion or, more generally, clear evidence of bizarre thought processes, should not be removed or edited by the forum moderator as a matter of course since the content of the post in its original form provides other forum users with an accurate picture of the contributor’s thoughts and intentions, thereby enabling them to assess the validity of his/her contribution to the discussion.

Article 278(b)(2)(iv) –  A forum post submitted to The Lounge which is composed in a highly polished literary style, with impeccable grammar and syntax throughout, and which shows clear evidence of rigorous logic, thorough background research and a deep conceptual grasp of the topic at hand should be treated as suspicious, as it may have been composed using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in a deliberate attempt to create a sense of inferiority amongst real-world forum users. It might therefore be advisable to delete such posts in the interests of maintaining morale.

@graeme-ogg Playing dumb is a valuable social survival skill much underutilized in these challenging times of AI and people communicating from the GMT using multi syllabialistic words.  I would also like to add for the record that just because a given individual takes a while to process conversational information, it doesn't mean I am...I mean....that he or she is dumb.  It could mean that they are respectfully processing said info, giving it due consideration and digesting it....speaking of which....Heeeey do I smell donuts?  I'll be right back....
