I have been watching a few You~Tube videos of Barry Gibb interviews lately and came to a whole and completely different view of this group and each one as an individual. Back in the 70s I will admit I did like one or two of the Bee Gee's songs, but also totally misjudged them for many years, especially through the disco and Saturday Night Fever days. I couldn't stand that disco crap then and still don't like it at all, along with this rap and hip~hop crap of today. I have played guitar over 60 years and lead and rhythm guitar in several bands from the 70s to the early 2000s, but pretty much hard rock and country rock style music. After watching this video of Barry's interview, I realized how foolish and cruel I was to have judged all of them the way I did. As a musician myself, I should have known better and recognized the real talent they had. The Bee Gees were as much talented and dedicated musicians and performers as any of the top Rock bands or country performers of the 70s, 80s, or 90s. I also realized what a wonderful, extremely talented, giving, and most down to Earth man Barry Gibb really was. He is absolutely a great man in my book now, and I honestly feel pretty stupid and guilty for not recognizing the talent this man had as a performer, producer, writer, and just as a great human being. Here's to Barry, and may he continue as long as he can!!!

@stangfreak, Wel said! Kelly and I sat down to watch a retrospective of their work. It was astonishing! The sheer volume of songs that took us back to specific times in our lives was overwhelming, even the disco! Barry was correct in saying it was a valid form of music with much to contribute to the culture at the time. What is true is that whatever genre they were in, the Bee Gees were always a quality presence.

That's awesome John. Barry said a whole lot in that interview that opened my eyes a great deal and made me realize allot about myself. That's kinda hard to admit and no other interview by anyone has touched me as Barry's did. I am really glad you posted this, and you are absolutely right in saying "whatever genre they were in, the Bee Gees were always a quality presence" as Barry still is today. I totally agree 110%. God bless this man!!!

Wow fantastic post. It's a shame that the Bee Gees did not get all the respect they deserve, "back in the day" but it is very refreshing the amount respect they have been getting in the last few years. It is sad though that Barry is the only brother left.
Just heard that the Foo Fighters have recorded a new album collection called Hail Satin, which boasts 10 tracks, including four Bee Gee covers. It drops July 17 via a limited-edition vinyl as part of Record Store Day's second wave of 2021 events.
I have always been a big Bee Gees fan and could never understand why they were subject to criticism at several points in their career. I agree that Barry's interview gave great insight into the quality person he is. So nice to see such a nice and humble man come through all the fame and adulation.
