I used to ask my 'buds' to lend me a few "Wilson's" from time to time. Only rarely did they come through. HA!

Yep, I was aware that these existed. I never saw the sense of it and I haven't carried monetary notes, or even coins, for many years. And only if I know I'll be doing something that requires a currency tip, will I stop at the bank to get cash. 

I can't ever remember having a $1.000 bill in my hand.

Twenties and fifties serve me well thank you...and credit cards of course.

@bob-jackman I know I never have, but I did try to get one once from the bank but they didn't have any.    Even now, if you want larger quanties of cash from your bank, you must call ahead to ensure they'll have it.    No one wants to deal with cash - yet, MORE & MORE establishments are adding sur-charges to ANY payment that's NOT cash!

@paul-rouffa I look at it the other way....       All one needs is ten 100,000 bills and you've got your first million.      Just TEN bills.       😉 😉 😉

@chris You are exactly right Chris. They are recovering the charge  the credit card company charges them. I believe they have always done that but it was built into the price we paid.

Germany is a cash culture and established businesses will let you use your debit card, but don't bother to extract that gold AMEX or Visa card from your wallet, or you will likely get a frown, even if your garage bill is over 1,000 Euro.  I prefer living this way, as it is far too easy to pull out a card and not have to witness your money disappearing.  I need that sort of checks-and-balances in my day to day living.

On the flip side, I can visit my dentist and if there is any residual cost, other than what is covered by insurance, he will submit an invoice at a later date, sometimes a month or two later.  Our mechanic is the same way, though we like to pay when we pick up our cars.  The twist is he doesn't usually have an invoice ready, at that time, so we have to give a call later, to see when we can pay him.  Can you imagine any system like this, in the USA?

@chris  Those notes were issued back in a time when the US dollar was backed by something more substantial than air.  Most citizens don't know there hasn't been an audit of Fort Knox for decades.

@chris   It seems odd the very people we elected to represent us are being stonewalled when they request an audit of Fort Knox.  One is inclined to ask one's self, cui bono?  (Who benefits?)
