No I didn't. Many times the original version is not the best......
No one does it as well as "The Fat Man."

I've often said Lennon and McCartney were great writers...
...but I prefer a lot of covers of the Beatles better than the original. Joe Cocker's version of With a Little Help From My Friends is far superior to the Beatles original from Sgt. Pepper's.

Only the Fats version is familiar to me because of when this was released.
However, the Sammy Kaye original stands up well in the style of it's time too. My favorite from this era is, Little White Lies by Earl Burtnett with vocalist, Paul Gibbons, released on the Brunswick Label in 1930.

By the time the mid 1960's came around, The Beatles lost me in translation.
Their earlier sound with out all the super duper recording studio trickery and maudlin lyrics and music - the age of the Concept album - while enormously popular, were not how I liked to enjoy music.
Up until the Beatles early stuff, there was ever only one truely original British Rock n Roll song - "Move It" in 1958 from, boy bopper, Cliff Richard, written by Ian "Sammy" Samwell who also played rhythm. Check this out if you like - it's on youtube* - dig the bristling guitar of session musician, Earnie Shear.
