@jack-dodds He'd the exact image of our Barkley. There's no way You teach them to be police dogs unless they could lick someone to death.

When I was selling high-end sport-fishing cats, my office was two doors down from the prop shop, where a lovely black lab named Fred could be found. Everyday, around three, he would wander into the showroom and I would open the special drawer, that housed his treats. He would visit for a while and then wander back out into the boatyard. He had been doing this for years and when he became ill, someone complained to the police that a dog was not on a leash, which was against the city codes. His owner tried fighting it, but the light at the end of the tunnel came when one of my clients was very happy with a deal I gave him on a larger outboard for his boat. He told me he was a city councilman and if I ever needed anything to let him know. Well, I think you know what I asked for and Fred was allowed to continue his walk-abouts in the boatyard until his passing. He was a gentle spirit and another reason why they are my favorite breed.
