London is now officially in its fifth "heat wave" of the season. It is 4.30 p.m. and the thermometer hanging in the shade of the old apple tree in our back garden says 38 degrees Celsius, which is exactly 100 degrees in old money. Not all that extreme in world terms but, hey, this is supposed to be a country with a temperate climate. So far in 2026, England in general has had 2%-3% of normal expected rainfall and in South-East England (which of course includes London) the figure is zero. Not a drop. There is a hosepipe and sprinkler ban in force, and cleaning your car with anything more than a packet of wet wipes means the firing squad at dawn.
But we folks in the GMT Zone are nothing if not resourceful when it comes to adapting to changing conditions so that life can go on as normal even as dramatic climate changes penetrate right to the very heart of our great city.
Oh, and speaking of camels . . .

It's been pretty toasty here as well, but we've gotten better than 5 inches of rain this week with a lot of localized flooding. Another couple of inches is expected over the weekend. 😲
...and the legendary Trabant SS Demi-Coupe manages to keep up with the latest technology in bio-sourced drivetrains. I'm sure the driver appreciates the revolutionary "Aero Flow" A/C as he enjoys the aromas and scents of his journey.
