Interesting and probably closer to being right than most of us are comfortable with.
However, one thing that will not change is that there will be consumers and products. The nature fo the products may change radically, but so will the market that accompanies them.

The future
Best article I ever saw and agree with all the contents. Someone is going to make a fortune providing charging stations like ATMs.
Remember pundits from the past who sold us on the bright new future where, electricity would be so cheap to produce that it was not worth sending out a monthly statement so electricity would be free.
Like, large corporations were never going to allow that to happen.
Yeah, and what about the new worry we would have? This was what we would do with all that leasure time brought about by working three day weeks.
So how did that work out?
Instead of a Utopian view being our modern day reality, we have what we have now.
Electric cars and digital gadgets don't make a cohesive society or reengender moral courage or take back lost empathy or engage with lost religious faith that once bound us together.
The wonderful toys of the future will help extend further social isolation
But it is what is and what it's going to be and there is no way around that.
Umm, #2, 20,000 parts ??
Bruce, thanks for the dose of reality.
Thanks for this post. Things are moving way to fast for this old brain of mine.
I see a Dystopia coming from all of this. Hope I'm wrong...
But I think we're headed down the wrong path.
Some of it is good, some not good IMO. I worry about the future generations.
I really worry about the economic future of North America and our reliance on foreign manufacturing, foreign investment, foreign ownership, etc. I have trust issues.....
The ever-increasing rate of change is a bit overwhelming at times.
I think we all do, Jack. But the future belongs to the young and they will learn to live in their world reality as we have done in ours.
I have to believe that to be true.
Yes I agree but their reality may not turn out to their liking and I worry about their ability to influence change in that particular society. Perhaps I think too much but the possible new world order is disturbing. Thankfully I won't be around to witness it all.
Citizens ability to influence change is in real terms I think, now diminishing and is being seriously eroded as our democracy's are hijacked by powerful corporate interests. It's the current Empire, the world hegemon that worries me the most right now. However, the rising power from the East while culturally very different from us, looks to be more willing to discuss and offer inclusion and a very different approach to what we are experiencing currently.
Empires come and go and as a species we adapt - we must or we perish.
I have trust issues with the East......but let's just hope for the best for our children.
