Playwright, poet, estheit, jail bird and master of the glib retort, Oscar Wilde was asked during his visit to The United States, what he thought of American women. He responded by saying that he observed that they speak to their men folk as an English woman would speak to her butler.
Not something that I have personally witnessed, but Wildes comments were spoken more for effect that for accuracy.
Any way, he is dead now, has been for over 100 years, so who cares.
