It still feels like I'm on holidays but I think I will make the adjustment without too much trouble; I was so ready for it. I want to turn the page and walk away with positive memories; the negative stuff isn't worth dwelling on. We are preparing to move residence in a short while so that is the focus these days. Lots to do!

Jack, I don't envy you. All I can say is don't look at the whole picture. Just take the process a box at a time.
We were in our old house for 24 years and had four storage sheds, attic storage, a house full of furniture and a life time of memories to either get rid of or pack.
We started with garage sales and to tell you the truth although we made several thousand dollars and I can't even tell you what we sold, because I don't remember or miss any of the stuff. The moving company asked how many boxes we would need. Hell, I didn't know. I estimated about 40. Ha ha. Turned out to be well over a hundred - which we packed ourselves.
It took four very muscular guys, two full sized trucks 9 hours (and us) to move our stuff
35 miles. That doesn't count the multiple hauling trips that Cathy and I each made seperately to the new house using both of our cars and an 8' U-haul trailer.
Understand that Cathy is a Virgo who is seriously inflicted with OCD and is the kind of person that will clean a house before the cleaning lady shows up. So, we cleaned everything. And cleaned. And cleaned. Everything. I guess it was worth it because we got our $1,000 cleaning deposit back.
But it didn't stop there. All of those boxes and furnishings that filled the rooms and double garage of the new place had to be unpacked and stowed in some semblance of order.
To say we were exhausted at completion is an understatement.
It took us about a month and a half to get settled in and that included the purchase of some new furnishings and appliances. Fortunately, the new house is in perfect, totally remodeled condition. The only expense we have had is to put our stamp on it.
Good luck, God speed and enjoy your new life style!

Where are you moving to?
Moving from Sidney, British Columbia to Sylvan Lake, Alberta.....a fair haul over the Rocky Mountains.

If we learned ANYTHING at all from the Donner party, you might consider bringing along a handful of highly annoying, slightly chubby, neighbors......always best to be proactive Jack

Sgt. Rock. LOL. Far from it. Lack of funds is a great motivator. It explains why I've done done so much DIY in my life. Or maybe I'm just cheap.

I think we should be okay for blizzards in August JB and the Donner party would have been fine if only they had belonged to AAA. These are all things we learn from history. But all the same, I am going with your recommendation of inviting chubby, annoying neighbors and I'll maybe throw in a bag of briquettes. Nothing raw for this explorer; I'm no cannibal.
@kocour I lived in my house for 30 years and when my wife passed- I quit my job- I consigned- gave away- or threw out everything- sold the house in 8 days and only took what would fit in my vehicle and took a several months long trip- This is not what I recommend anyone do nor should I have done- 20 years later I see how stupid that was-
