A very sad occurrence. The loss of a talented modeler and automobile lover is a diminishing event for all of us.
Rest in Peace John
Very sad and unexpected news for me too. If I hadn't stumbled on this Forum post this morning (before it had almost drifted down out of sight) I might not have found out for some time.
John and I go back a long way. I have regularly been in touch with him since the days when we were both publishing our "chopping" efforts in Model Auto Review, and when he visited London some years ago we met up for a day and he came round to my place to view my collection.
(That's us doing our Simon and Garfunkel impersonation. Yes, he's the tall one!)
Since then we have continued to compare notes about various aspects of collecting and our model-making tricks and techniques.
Just last year I sent him a package of various bits and pieces (whitewall tyre sets, glass headlamp sets, cast metal door handles and P/E trim pieces) for him to use in his relentless production of model variants which so many people on Forum 43 are familiar with. I think it was only about 2 or 3 months ago when he mailed me to say he was making good use of them, and mentioned that he was following my example and riding his pushbike regularly to stay fit. But there you are, nothing guarantees immortality, I guess. A sobering thought for those of us who are still hanging in there.
A great loss to our modelling community. RIP John, it was nice knowing you.

Sad to hear of Johns passing. When John lived in California I meant him a few times at a mutual friends, Bill Harrison's house in Cupertino where we were reviewing Bills vast model collection. Bill was a master and like a mentor and taught John and myself many procedures for model modifications. John of course did many of his own modifications which we have all seen on forms. RIP John...

Very sorry to hear this sad news. John was a great guy, and I was in contact with him just last month. R.I.P. my friend.

I just learned of John's passing. Thank you, Jerry, for passing this sad news on to us. We had emailed back and forth about cars of course and always talked about me coming out to visit him. I will miss our virtual chats and all his Forum43, etc, posts.
I, too, am just now reading of his passing. Like many of you here, my experience with John was a pleasant one. He went to great lengths to help me make a replacement awning for a Marklin camper model.
I did find a thorough obituary that tells even more about this man: John Quilter
@randyrusk Thank you for the link to John’s obituary. I learned a lot about him. Just a thought, assuming you provide appropriate credit/reference, this would make a good collector profile for John. You can find photos of some of his models on posts in the Forum 43 section of the Diecast Zone.
