@perrone1

my mom passed on at 97, in 2013. I still miss those pies, cakes, cookies and of course those fruitcakes!

You have not lived until you've tasted Sicilian Christmas desserts.

Steve, the one that mediately comes to mind is a cookie called cucciddati. The name may vary, as I'm pretty sure cucciddati is dialect. It's made with chopped figs, almonds, walnuts, lemon and orange rind. The filling is stuffed into not very sweet cookie dough. My mom and grandmother made these every Christmas. Some of the Italian pastry shops and Italian food specialty markets in NYC and northern NJ carry them. Some other examples are S-shaped cookies made with almonds and honey and Sicilian nougat. I must not forget pistachio cookies and pastry.

I have lived piasano, I have lived! LOL!! Man, you are right John. My father was born in Palermo, Sicily. My grandfather, grandmother, dad and his (then) 2 sisters, sailed to the US in 1912. Grandad and grandmom had 7 more kids. We had those deserts, growing up, for many, many years! Oh the memories, oh the calories!! Cool

The heck with any calories ! It's Christmas... Time for Family and Traditions which hopefully we never forget as they are so important to us 🙏😋

Thanks John, there has to be a Sicilian bakery here in SoCal !

My Mom made all the best Christmas cookies too. I'd share a few with friends sometimes but had to stop because they'd always ask for more...😂

Tony, my maternal grandparents immigrated to the US in 1905 from a town in Sicily called Baucina...it's about 15 miles from Palermo.
