@ralf He was the best and the first to force scale perspectives; many have since followed but none can match his flair. His true artistry, however, was that he could replicate 1/24 structures & objects IN SCALE. Never did a viewer "wonder" or dismiss something because it looked out of place. Everything he created was convincing! Mr. Smith was a true master craftsman and pioneer. He is missed!
@perrone1 Yes, Michael P. Smith's Elgin Park was incredible. Every now and then, I spend an hour or two reading the book about him and his work.
For those who don't know him
He was, for certain, and I agree completely with Chris, above, Michael Smith was the best! His hours of work and dedication for just one shot, was incredible!
@jkuvakas His photos are good but IMO, not as nice as Smith's; I can tell they're "staged models."
MPS frequently employed the "less is more" approach which worked extremely well. All of us, when taking scale pics, have a tendency to try and "get it all in." That's usually NOT the best approach when "desception" is the goal.
One my "scale pics" that garners the most praise has very little going on; it's all about angle, shadow & light. It's nowhere near the level of a MPS photo, but it's probably my best effort - less is more.
